Keeping Prescription Drugs Out of the Hands of Our Kids
Tigard Turns the Tide partnered with the Tigard Police Department to host its second successful National Drug Turn-In event this year. Unwanted prescription and non-prescription medications were collected at the Tigard Police Department on October 29th. The next event will be held on April 28th.
This national effort, sponsored by the US Office of National Drug Control Policy and the US Drug Enforcement Administration, addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. According to the Partnership for a Drug Free America, approximately 2,500 teens use prescription drugs to get high for the first time every day. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, namely the home medicine cabinet. The DEA in conjunction with nearly 4,000 state and local law enforcement agencies throughout the nation participated in these events over the past year, collecting more than 309 tons of pills. These events are held twice a year in cities across the country.
Tigard High is now Red Ribbon certified! Due to STUD’s commitment to improving school environment, parent engagement and academic performance, Tigard High School was awarded the Red Ribbon Certification for 2011-2014!
To help keep potentially dangerous drugs out of kids’ hands, the Tigard Police Dept. hosts Prescription Drug Turn-Ins twice a year. Unwanted prescription and non-prescription medications are collected for safe disposal. Next event is on April 28th.
